Overview
- Live Toll Saving is a Mobile App to help travelers to inform them of estimated toll prices according to their current route selection
- The app also estimates the time of traveling and the estimated time of destination according to the live traffic conditions
- The app helps users to take the least travel time and the least toll cost involvement
- The app provides quick access to save destinations by users
- The app gives live alerts of traffic and calculates the travel time to the fed destination
- The app handles different vehicles of users as the toll amount varies according to the different vehicles
- The app handles map pointers such as Police Radar, Accidents created by users for other users and notify them as they keep moving near the pointers
Challenge
The biggest challenge was to find the feasibility of the project as the stack holder had the idea to implement the same but had no clue how to make an actual project out of a single idea.
The project finding starts with finding a solution that can support the pricing and the maps at the same time. The team finalized the HERE map system which provides customization to their existing mapping system and supports the toll prices according to the travel time and distance.
Now as I had the solution to use, I have the challenge of how to implement the same in mobile devices. The followings are some of the issues I thought of when I started designing the flow:
- How to show the result to the users with the least screen taps?
- How to let users choose the vehicle before starting the trip, as the toll prices vary according to the vehicle?
- How to show Police and Accident alerts to the users?
- How to show savings alerts to the users, especially when they are driving?
- How to show users the toll they spent on the trip at the end of the trip?
- How the users can access the trip history from their account?
Research
As the app will be functioning only for paid users so before starting the whole process, I decided to take as much as information we need from the user as we will need from the user to give them accurate information about the toll pricing.
As the toll amount is affected by the different vehicles and a user might have a different type of vehicle in use. The plan was to ask the user each time to select the vehicle they are driving at the time of usage of the app. Understanding this flow, I have proposed a solution to add different vehicles to the user account so that the user can choose added vehicles easily.
Another requirement from the project owners was to give users a notification about future trips, this notification will be for the user according to the destination, live traffic, and the type of route (Toll, Highway, or No Highway) the user wants to take.

Process
At the start of the project, the project was live with limited functionality and with a very minimal number of users with almost zero interactions. The client introduced me to this project in a very certain way with very specific requirements. Reference Provided by the Client: 360 Sports (Most Relevant), FotMob, CricBuzz, ESPN.
The requirements with the colors and the styling of the elements were affecting the project scope and creating boundaries for the expansion of the project. The first challenge was to make the client understand the actual requirement of the project.
The Primary Requirement for me was to give the project modern look. So it started with understanding the games and the flow of the project.
